The Financial Forum welcomes Dr Jon Haveman on Tuesday, June 25th at 3 PM in the Fireside Room at Gateway Clubhouse. His topic will be: "The Economics of Health Care”. In this talk, he discusses the current state of healthcare in the United States. This includes an in-depth exploration of costs, access, and quality. Beyond this, explanations are offered for the dramatically increasing costs of healthcare, from premiums to fees for service, as well as a discussion of different healthcare models or, more accurately, health insurance provisions. There are a variety of systems in place, and we will discuss each and what role they play in the U.S. healthcare provision system.
Dr. Haveman was the Chief Economist at the Bay Area Council Economic Institute, a founding principal at Beacon Economics, and the Director of the Economy Program at the Public Policy Institute of California. He has been a Senior Economist with the President's Council of Economic Advisors and an Economist with the Federal Trade Commission, and he has held a faculty position at the business school of Purdue University. Dr. Haveman holds a PH.D. and a Master of Science in Economics from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Wisconsin.
